Intro to Behavioral Health & Professionalism in Healthcare

Description

Introduction to Behavioral Health: Introduces key topics in behavioral health including mental health, trauma, substance use, suicide, resiliency, and therapeutic methods. Explores careers within the field of behavioral health and social services. Provides opportunity to earn appropriate Mental Health First Aid certificate. Students will receive 2 college credits and a Mental Health First Aid certificate.

Professionalism in Healthcare: Focuses on development of professional employability skills in health care. Emphasizes cultural competency to provide high quality patient care. Provides an opportunity to join the Alaska statewide Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) conference with high school students from across the state. BBRCTE students will not compete in HOSA events but will be able to engage in breakout sessions, learn about the HOSA competitions, and enjoy the energy and resources provided by the statewide conference. Includes tours of healthcare/university facilities. Students will receive 2 college credits.
