In Cultural Arts, you’ll explore Alaska Native languages, traditional crafts, storytelling, dance, design, and more- all while honoring the knowledge passed down through generations. This hands-on program connects culture, identity, and artistry to help you express yourself and keep traditions strong. Whether you’re weaving, carving, or sewing, every project tells a story: your story.
Cultural Arts Week: This partnership course with UAF Bristol Bay Campus brings together traditional arts instruction and small business/ rural entrepreneurship. Students will spend the week learning about traditional arts through hands-on projects and values significant to the people of Bristol Bay while also learning about basic principles and concepts of small business as it relates to selling artwork. Students will hear from local indigenous artists who started their own small businesses and other guest speakers.
Bristol Bay Native Languages: A week-long language intensive to introduce students to the indigenous languages of Bristol Bay. Students will learn strategies and techniques of second language learning, and be immersed in learning cultural heritage through language. Students will develop skills needed to continue learning language in their communities and gain technical skills in the specialized area of language revitalization.
Cultural Internship: Students will work with BBRCTE’s Internship Development Program Manager to be placed in a culturally relevant internship. More info to come!
