Solar Electric Design and Installation (Dillingham) – 8 Seats
Solar Electric Design and Installation provides a gateway to the solar industry. Students will learn
the fundamental principles of solar power systems including the purpose of system components,
essential properties of electricity and how to characterize the solar resource. Students also learn
about various applications of solar energy, system architecture and performance estimation.
Students gain some hands-on experience through lab exercises. After completing the course,
students are in a strong position to begin entry-level jobs in the solar industry.

Introduction to Diesel Mechanics (Dillingham) – 8 seats
This introductory course gives high school students a hands-on look at marine diesel engines
and the skills needed to keep them running. Students will learn how diesel engines operate,
identify major engine parts and systems, and understand how power is transferred in marine
vessels. Through classroom instruction and practical activities, students will learn how to
diagnose common engine problems using a systems-based approach and perform basic repair
and maintenance tasks. The course also emphasizes proper tool use, safety, cleanliness, and
professional work habits. By the end of the course, students will have a strong foundation in
marine diesel engine operation, troubleshooting, and repair, perfect for students interested in
marine careers!

Introduction to Culinary (Naknek) – 8 seats
This fun, hands-on course introduces students to the basics of cooking and working in a
professional kitchen. Students will learn essential skills like knife safety, cutting techniques, food
preparation, basic cooking methods, kitchen safety, and sanitation while preparing a variety of
foods throughout the week.
Students will also have the opportunity to earn their State of Alaska Food Handler’s Card by the
end of the course. Come ready to learn, cook, and try something new!

Introduction to IT Support Specialist (Naknek) – 8 seats
This fast-paced, one-week CTE intensive introduces students to the foundational skills used by
IT support professionals. Through instruction, hands-on labs, troubleshooting activities, and
certification preparation, students will explore computer hardware, operating systems, software,
networking, cybersecurity, databases, and basic technical support practices. Students will also
learn about IT careers and professional communication. The course is aligned with the CompTIA
Tech+ certification objectives and is designed to prepare students for the CompTIA Tech+ exam.
Students that successfully complete this course will have the opportunity to intern with their
school districts IT team in their home community!

Introduction to Construction Trades (Naknek) – 8 seats
Explore the basics of construction through hands-on learning! Students will be introduced to
different construction trades, common hand and power tools, job site safety, and basic
construction skills.
Throughout the course, students will practice safely using tools, learn basic measurements and
construction techniques, and explore the different careers available in the construction industry.
This course is a great starting point for students interested in construction and the trades!

Introduction to Aviation Careers (Naknek) – 8 seats * Pending *
Take your first step into the world of aviation! This hands-on, exploratory course introduces
students to the many careers and opportunities that keep Alaska moving. Students will explore
aviation history, different sectors of the industry, government aviation organizations, airport
operations, aircraft manufacturing, and a wide range of aviation career pathways.
Throughout the week, students will get an inside look at how Alaska’s aviation industry operates
and discover careers both in the cockpit and on the ground—from pilots and aircraft mechanics
to airport operations, air traffic control, and more.
This course also serves as a recruitment pathway into the Alaska Rural Aviation Academy, where
interested students can continue into advanced Pilotage or Aviation Maintenance training.

Introduction to Aluminum MIG Welding; GMAW (Naknek) – 8 seats
Students will gain hands-on experience with aluminum welding and fabrication while
completing a variety of practical projects. The course will focus on skills that have direct
applications in vessel construction and repair, marine maintenance, and other industries
important to the Bristol Bay region. Students will build foundational, industry-relevant welding
skills while exploring local career opportunities and pathways for continued training in welding
and fabrication.

Introduction to Heavy Equipment (Naknek) – 6 seats
Curious about a career operating heavy equipment? This five-day introductory course gives
students a safe, hands-on introduction to the heavy equipment industry. Participants will explore
career opportunities while learning essential jobsite safety, equipment identification, basic
preventative maintenance, and pre-operation inspections. Students will gain experience using
heavy equipment simulators and, under instructor supervision, operate equipment such as a skid
steer, wheel loader, and dozer. Designed for beginners with no prior experience, this course
emphasizes safety, professionalism, teamwork, and the foundational skills needed to explore
careers in construction, transportation, boat hauling/launching, and other equipment-related
industries.
