Current Course Offerings

Intensive Week 1: September 22-26th, 2025

This dual focus class will introduce students to multiple art forms, materials, foods, and cultures of the Bristol Bay region as well as offer an introduction to the Alutiiq / Sugpiaq language. Additionally students will learn about small business and entrepreneurship as it relates to the production and sale of local art. Students will work with multiple instructors and elders during the week.

This class will cover three main topics in the Fisheries Intensive this year: Net Hanging and Mending, Introduction to Bristol Bay Salmon, and Vessel Stability. The Net Hanging and Mending section will be a hands-on experience including basic salmon net hanging and mending techniques. This section will have a greater focus on net mending skills, including mending techniques for fixing more damaged nets. The Introduction to Bristol Bay Salmon II section will take you through a range of topics related to Bristol Bay salmon and what makes Bristol Bay so unique including understanding ways that the science at Port Moller and in the Bristol Bay rivers and lakes can impact the fishery. The Tool & Shop Basics section will take you through the use of a range of tools needed to properly maintain and make emergency repairs on a fishing boat.

This introductory course is designed to teach students the basics of shop orientation, safety, and stick (SMAW) welding of low carbon steel. This course focuses on the maintenance and construction of commercial fishing vessels and supporting infrastructure in the Bristol Bay fishery. Additionally, time will be taken to discuss career exploration, welding history and fabrication techniques

This course provides students with a foundation in construction skills while emphasizing the importance of safety on the job. Following OSHA standards, students will learn how to use and care for personal protective equipment (PPE), operate and maintain common hand and power tools, and apply safe practices on job sites. The course also introduces the basics of reading construction drawings, including key terms, symbols, measurements, and scales. Through a mix of hands-on activities and written assignments, students will build practical skills and knowledge that prepare them for success in the construction industry.

This hands-on course introduces students to the fundamentals of 3D printing and laser engraving while exploring the full design process; sketch, design, and create. Using design software and the Glowforge laser cutter, students will create hands-on projects such as custom board games, name tags, animals, and practical tools, all while gaining experience that connects directly to careers in design, engineering, manufacturing, and technology. By the end, students will understand not only how to bring ideas to life, but also how these skills apply to real-world problem solving and future career pathways.
