Introduction to Outboard Systems (Dillingham) – 8 seats
Introduction to Outboard Systems (ITOS) provides a fundamental understanding of the outboard
systems, their applications and usage. Upon successful completion of this course, students will
have the opportunity to earn Yamaha’s ‘Introduction to Outboard Systems (ITOS)’ certificate.
This certificate is a pre-requisite for the Yamaha’s Maintenance Certificate Program (MCP). This
BBRCTE version of ITOS includes hands-on laboratory work in addition to the lectures and online
material.

Public Safety: Police, EMS, or Fire (Dillingham) – 8 seats
Explore the fast-paced world of Public Safety and discover careers where every day is different and your skills can make a real difference in your community.
Students will get hands-on experience with basic law enforcement skills, bleeding control techniques, emergency response, teamwork, communication, and other practical life skills that are valuable both on the job and in everyday life.

Introduction to Stick Welding: SMAW (Dillingham) – 8 seats
Students will build hands-on stick welding skills while gaining experience with a welding test
modeled after the American Welding Society (AWS) D1.1 Structural Welding Code certification
test. Students will become familiar with the testing process, welding standards, and performance
expectations used in the industry. This course is designed to build confidence and prepare
students for future AWS certification testing opportunities through BBRCTE’s partnership with
the Iron Workers Union. This course provides students with practical, industry-relevant welding
skills while exposing them to postsecondary education, career opportunities, and pathways for
continued training.

Introduction to Building Maintenance I (Naknek) – 12 seats
Get hands-on experience with the skills it takes to maintain, repair, and improve residential and
commercial buildings. Throughout this course, students will work on real-world projects while
learning how to safely use the tools, materials, and techniques commonly used in building
maintenance and facilities careers.
Students will practice measurement and trades math, hand and power tool safety, wood and steel
stud construction, door and hardware installation, sheetrock repair and finishing, basic plumbing
and electrical maintenance, flooring installation and repair, painting and caulking, window
installation, and basic roofing repairs.
This course is a great opportunity for students interested in construction, facilities maintenance,
the skilled trades, or simply learning practical skills they can use at home and on the job.
Students will also complete OSHA-10 and CPR/AED training, adding valuable safety certifications
to their resumes. No prior experience is required; come ready to work, learn, and build your skills!

Introduction to Healthcare Careers (Naknek) – 8 seats
There are a lot of opportunities in the Health Industry, and Intro to Health Careers will give you a
good overview of the possibilities. Topics will include career foundations, career pathways,
ethics, and safety. Whether you’re interested in becoming a health aide in your village, physical
therapist, radiologist, nurse, EMT, or doctor, this course will give you a good idea of whether to
pursue your interests further.

Traditional Arts & Rural Entrepreneurship (Naknek) – 12 seats
This partnership course with UAF Bristol Bay Campus brings together traditional arts instruction
and small business/ rural entrepreneurship. Students will spend the week learning about
traditional arts through hands-on projects and values significant to the people of Bristol Bay
while also learning about basic principles and concepts of small business as it relates to selling
artwork. Students will hear from local indigenous artists who started their own small businesses
and other guest speakers.

Workplace Technology, Communication and Writing (Naknek) – 8 seats
This two part course focuses on preparing students to be successful in the modern workplace.
Students will spend the first part of the week learning about computer basics including virus
protection, computer operations, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and much more! Students will
also learn about professional communication basics and writing later in the week with
opportunities to grow and highlight their writing skills in creative ways! This class is a great
starting point for students to gain valuable background knowledge for future careers or even
future BBRCTE courses.

Exploring Careers in Education (Naknek) – 8 seats
Are you interested in working with kids or learning more about what it is like to work in a school?
In this course, you will get hands-on experience exploring different careers in education. You will
complete job-shadowing hours in a school, work with small groups of students, and learn how to
plan and teach a lesson in an elementary classroom with a partner. This course will give you a
chance to see what teachers and paraprofessionals each day do while building your own
leadership, communication, and teamwork skills. You do not need any teaching experience to
join. You just need to be willing to participate, try new things, and be motivated to have fun!
